News: First Look at ‘Mute’

Set in Berlin in 2052, Mute follows a bartender named Leo (Skarsgård) who lost the ability to speak after a childhood accident. After his beloved girlfriend Naadirah (played by Seyneb Saleh) unexpectedly disappears, he sets out on a noir-ish quest to find her, diving deep into the city’s seedy, neon underworld.

The only recurring clue that Leo finds is a pair of wise-cracking American surgeons: Rudd, wearing a hell of a mustache, and Theroux, wearing a hell of a wig. Jones co-wrote the script with Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes), and he’s said in the past that Mute is somehow connected to his 2009 debut film Moon, which stars Sam Rockwell as a man working as a solitary miner on the Earth’s moon.

Netflix signed on to distribute Mute last year, and it’s expected to hit the streaming service later in 2017. [Source]

News: Netflix picks up ‘Mute’ starring Paul Rudd

After a sojourn in big budget action territory with Warcraft, Duncan Jones is returning to his roots with Mute, a sci-fi film that will form a trilogy with his directorial debut Moon and as-yet-untitled third film.

Set in a futuristic Berlin, Mute will take place in the same universe as Moon and star Alexander Skarsgård as a mute bartender trying to track down a missing partner with the help of a surgeon played by Paul Rudd (an odd premise, yes, but an intriguing one). [Source]

News: Paul Rudd to Star in ‘The Catcher Was A Spy’

Paul Rudd is set to star in The Catcher Was a Spy, a WWII thriller that Ben Lewin (The Sessions) will direct, with PalmStar Media producing and financing. The script is by Saving Private Ryan scribe Robert Rodat, who adapted the Nicholas Dawidoff bestselling book. PalmStar Media’s Kevin Frakes and Mark Fasano will produce along with Animus Films’ Jim Young and Tatiana Kelly of Serena Films, and Michael Bederman. PalmStar’s Buddy Patrick will Executive Produce.

Rudd will play Moe Berg, an Ivy League grad and attorney who spoke nine languages, but that wasn’t the only reason he stood out among his baseball teammates when he spent 15 years as a journeyman player for such teams as the New York Robins and Chicago White Sox. Their biggest worry might have been hitting a curveball; Berg doubled as a top secret spy for the OSS (a forerunner for the CIA), who helped the U.S. win the race against Germany to build the atomic bomb. Perhaps Berg was helped in his efforts to stay under the radar by the fact his skills were not going to make anyone forget about Babe Ruth. When Berg played for the Senators, teammate Dave Harris once famously said, “Moe Berg can speak twelve languages, but can’t hit any of them!” His story was previously developed by Warner Bros as a vehicle for George Clooney and before that, both HBO and Miramax tried but struck out.
